Jessi Jokelaisen Epigenesis (Into, 2026) on omaelämäkerrallinen sarjakuvateos perheestä, mielenterveydestä ja sukupolvet ylittävistä sotatraumoista
“Niin kaukana on sota, että mulle se on vain tekstiä kirjoissa, joitain sanoja sukulaisten suusta. Mutta mun keho muistaa.”
Jatkosota päättyi syksyllä 1944. Jälleenrakennus alkoi ja uusi yhteiskunta häämötti horisontissa, mutta taistelut jatkuivat sodan kokeneiden mielissä ja kehoissa. Jessi Jokelaisen sarjakuvateos käsittelee sodan jättämiä jälkiä suomalaisessa yhteiskunnassa ja ihmisten arjessa.
Omien isovanhempiensa tarinoiden ja elämänkokemuksensa kautta Jokelainen lähestyy traumatisoitumista ja mielen rikkoutumista. Yksityisestä kokemuksesta avautuu näkymä laajemmin yhteiskuntaa koskeviin kysymyksiin.
Teos pohtii, miten sotatraumat näkyvät 2020-luvun Suomessa ja miten ne liittyvät muihinkin kuin maamme omiin sotiin. Samalla se kysyy, millaista yhteiskuntaa meidän tulisi rakentaa, jotta historia ei toistaisi itseään. Jättääkö sota meitä koskaan rauhaan?

Welcome to this tour through the Mexican landscape of independent comics.
During the 1950s and 60s, Mexico was one of the largest producers of comic books in the world, even surpassing Japan. That thriving industry eventually disappeared, and with it, much of its audience. Today, most publications are created by independent artists who work without economic structure, professionalization, or financing, while competing with every form of entertainment available.
At the same time, there has never been so much freedom for authors to express themselves. Without the need to satisfy a market or an editor, and with accessible publishing options, artists can create stories and visual styles entirely on their own terms.
In this exhibition, you will find a diversity of art styles and themes connected through a narrative. It begins with a fascination with death, a subject deeply rooted in Mexican culture, then moves through life’s hardships and the search for solutions, courage, and resilience. Finally, it arrives at a more romantic view of life and at the love for making comics.
I hope you can feel the embrace of Mexican culture through this exhibition and find inspiration to follow your dreams beyond the obstacles that may appear along the way.

The Oulu Comics Center has panels for every day to look, to read, to borrow, to buy and to draw. In the Comics Library, Sarjasto, you can experience panel filled moments and marvel on the spot or borrow and take home. Street art brings a riot of colors to the streets and fairways. The Oulu Comics Festival fills the city with panels once again in this year. The festival is the largest annual comics event in the arctic region. The capital of Northern Comics is a lively and inspiring meeting place in the field of comics culture. This site offers a lot of information about Oulu region’s, northern Finland’s and Arctic region’s comics.
