Comics Pitching brings artists and publishers together. Oulu Comics Center organizes an opportunity for comic book artists to introduce their ideas and projects to a jury which consists of representatives of numerous publishing houses. Comics Pitching is a live event (no remote connections) and a part of Oulu Comics Festival.
Comics Pitching is an one-of-a-kind possibility to get new contacts and to get direct feedback from professional publishers of the comic book industry.
The jury members are Vesa Kataisto (Täysi Käsi), Petteri Oja (Zum Teufel), and Vesa Vitikainen (Musta ritari / Kevyt metalli). The discussion is facilitated by Oulu Comics Center Director Harri Filppa.
Each participating artist has exactly 5 minutes to introduce their project. In the presentation, the participants must use a slideshow in which the slides will change automatically every 15 seconds.
Do you want to come and present your project?
Send 15 numbered slides (landscape layout, 1600×1200 pixels, jpg) to Oulu Comics Center via e-mail (sarjakuvaoulu[at]gmail.com) if you want to participate in Comics Pitching as an artist. Deadline is 31st of October. In your e-mail, please state your name, the name of your project, and write a short description of your project. Only about six artists can be chosen for Comics Pitching. The Jury will decide which of the artists they want to meet.
Come to collect tools for fruitful negotiations with publishers or just come to witness the success of the participants!
In Comic Pitching 2019, five artists or artist groups presented their projects. Two of them got a publishing deal, and their books came out this year. Oulu X Comic Festival has a joy to present to the audience Kivet, kannot, tähdet, kuuta (Arktinen Banaani 2021) by Mitja Mikael Malin on Friday 19th of November starting at 4:00 p.m., and Huojuva torni (Zum Teufel 2021) by Tessa Astre, Aapo Kukko & Niko-Petteri Niva on Saturday 20th of November starting at 6:10 p.m.
