Oulu Comics Festival 18.-20.10.2013

The second Oulu Comics Festival was allowed by The Finnish Comics Society, who organized a POP-UP  Comics Center at Oulu. The POP-UP Comics Center was open in Cultural Centre Valve spacious reception area at 15.-20.10.2013.

During the festival week, the POP-UP Comics Center organized NON-STOP -comics workshops and separate workshops from the groups. Comics center offered an opportunities to do some window collages, floor taping and learn how to make iPad-comics. For this festival, The Finnish Comics Society tendet to deepen the collaboration with Oulu Comics Society, and bring comic teaching more common for the workers of the area. These two societys shared a mutual wish to create a own Comic Center in Oulu. That wish came true, when Oulu Comics Center opened at Cultural Centre Valve in the beginning of the year 2014.

The Oulu Comics Festival 2013 introduced several nationwide guests: Awe “Esa” Vengasaho, Aapo Kukko, Harri “Wallu” Vaalio, Jussi Hukkanen, Hanna holopainen, Harri Filppa, Esa Holopainen, Jii Roikonen, Veli-Matti Ural, Mika Kolehmainen, Pentti Nuortimo, Anu ja Jari Terho, sekä  Ilpo Koskela. https://www.oulucomics.com/____index.php

Festivals foreigner guest was Max Baitinger from Germany. His first Finnish translated book Heimdall (Sarjakuvakeskus, 2013) was published at Oulu Comics Festival.

Cultural Centre Valve had many exhibitions during the festivals: Dreambuddies at coffeehouse Minttu, Max Baitinger: Heimdall at hallway between two exhibition spaces and Joos Swarte at Valve spacious reception area.

Also the Oulu City Library present two exhibitions at 14.10.-2.11.2013. Lempi-gallery was shown in low lobbys vitrines, and Ruudun takana-gallery at borrowing department. First Annual

Oulu Nordic Comics Competition 2014, themed polar night was announced to start at Oulu Comics Festival 2013.

Oulu Comics Festival 2013 festival artist was  Esko Heikkilä.
