The board of Oulu Comics Association has decided to award stipends for self-publishing comic books for comic artists living, or born, in North Ostrobothnia, Kainuu or Lapland. The goal is to support comic artists and highlight their prowess.
Petitions for the stipends are made by an open application by 31st of July 2024 at the latest. The application should contain at minimum:
- possible links to the artist’s webpage and social media platforms
- page samples and information about the forthcoming book
- the cost estimate of the publishing (the stipend must be used for covering publishing expenses and the petitioned amount must be declared in the cost estimate)
- in the message, write your name, postal address, phone number, and your connection to the area
The stipend is applied via email (sarjakuvaoulu(at)gmail(dot)com) and the call is open around the year. Alternatively, you can send your application via mail so that it arrives by 1st of August. In such a case, send the application to

The board of Oulu Comics Association makes the selections, and the award ceremony will be next time on 15th of August 2024 at 6:00 p.m. at Oulu Comics Center, Hallituskatu 7, Oulu. The priority for the stipends will be in as complete books as possible.Terms for the stipend include that the book must be published and presented in Oulu Comics Festival and the book must contain a disclosure that Oulu Comics Association has funded publishing costs. The stipend receiver must deliver five copies of the book to Oulu Comics Center and write a free-form report by the end of the year.
The stipends are between 100 and 300 € and they have been provided from the revenue of the previous financial year of the operation of Oulu Comics Association. The total amount of funding is approved by the board of Oulu Comics Association in the May – June range.
