Artist in Residence: Nancy A. Acosta aka NAAN (USA)
Duration of the Residency: October 1 – November 30 2019 (1.10.-30.11.2019)
Originally from Puerto Rico, NAAN now resides in the Midwest. Fluent in Spanish and English, she graduated from Iowa State University in 2011 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Linguistics with Russian Studies and a Bachelor’s in German. As of 2018, she also now holds a Master’s in Graphic Design from the same university. She is currently working on her webcomic Legendary Beings Ara & Celi among other stories. Likes Dadaism, mythology/religion readings, linguistics, decorative fonts, 80s new wave, the jpop band globe and Falco of Austria.
The residence is located in a small town in Northern Finland, Liminka, 30 kilometers South from the City of Oulu. Liminka School of Arts is the oldest community college in Finland, founded in 1966. Adult students can choose to study in one of the departments, these are fine arts (painting, printmaking, sculpting), comics and animation, and free-form studies for more advanced.
The residence programme is organized in collaboration with Oulu Comics Center and Liminka School of Arts. Residence is supported by Arts Promotion Centre Finland.
