All activities and events organized by the Oulu Comics Center follow the Principles for a Safer Space.
We are committed to following the City of Oulu’s Principles for a Safer and Braver Space, where everyone is treated with respect. Our goal is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and free to be themselves, regardless of their background or personal characteristics. Everyone has the right to enjoy comics art without fear of discrimination. Human rights are not a matter of opinion.
Promoting equality and preventing discrimination are part of our responsible practices. These principles are also based on the Finnish Non-Discrimination Act, which obligates public authorities and communities to promote equality.
In a safer and braver space, everyone has the opportunity to participate, to be heard, and to feel included.
Everyone has the right to be seen, heard, and accepted as they are. Photography in public spaces is allowed, but during closed events please remember to ask permission before taking photos.
We treat each other with respect and without assumptions. Everyone is equally important regardless of gender, age, ethnic background, religion or belief, opinion, background, health condition, disability, or sexual orientation.
We respect everyone’s personal space. We aim to create an atmosphere where it is safe to ask questions, make mistakes, and learn. Everyone has the right to be heard and to express their own views. We make space for all voices in discussions and value each other’s opinions.
We give and receive feedback and apologize when necessary. We are willing to change our behavior if we realize ourselves, or are informed, that it has not been appropriate.
We strive to ensure that our spaces and services are safe, accessible, and easy to use. If an event venue is not accessible, this will be clearly communicated in advance.
Together, we intervene in inappropriate behavior, discrimination, racism, and harassment. We encourage those engaging in harassment to stop and support those who have experienced harassment. During the Oulu Comics Festival, harassment contact persons can be reached through the festival information desk.
