Competition 2020
The Oulu Comics Festival presents the first Comic Strip World Championship! In this competition, the contestants will have five day’s time to create a comic strip for a given theme.
Theme:
The theme is Corona Vaccine #coronacomicstrip. Watch for the theme to be presented on a Youtube-broadcast on October 26, 2020 at 5:00pm (Finnish time zone). Here is direct link to broadcast:
Deadline:
Participants must submit their comic by October 31, 2020 at 16:59 (Finnish time zone) at the latest.
Venue:
Comic strip (more information about Comic strip and format) for the competition will be published on Instagram using a hashtag #coronacomicstrip. Instagram is the only way to participate in the competition and submitted work should fit into a single post. The post must be public. Here are instructions to publish your work on Instagram.
Participant Rules:
- All work must be previously unpublished.
- Comics will be created in response to the theme.
- The format and style of the comic strip is unrestricted, however the text should be in English to facilitate judging.
- Pre-registration is not required and questions about technical issues will not be answered.
The Jury:
The jury is made up of comic multiplayers and cartoonists selected from at least from three continents. The five-person jury will be meeting virtually. This year’s jury is: Aapo Kukko (Finland), Lóa Hjálmtýsdóttir (Iceland), Fredrik Strömberg (Sweden), Cara Bean (USA) and Amr Talaat (Egypt).
Rules for Jury:
- The maximum number of points awarded by one judge for one work is 20 points, and the points given by three judges are added to the total points, leaving out the highest and lowest result.
- The decisions of the jury cannot be appealed.
- Late entries will be considered, but according to the points calculation (system copied from ski jumping), we will deduct 1.8 points per participant for each hour.
Winners:
The winners will be announced at the Oulu Comics Festival on November 21, 2020 at 5:00 pm (Finnish time zone). The awards ceremony can also be followed via the Internet from a Youtube-broadcast. Here is direct link to Festival broadcast:
