A Great opportunity for comic artists worldwide!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Oulu Comics Center announces an Open Call for Comic Artists to apply. The Comics residency takes place in Liminka, Northern Finland, a serene and inspiring village near the Baltic sea shore. The residency programme is organized in collaboration with Oulu Comics Center and Liminka School of Arts.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Oulu Comics Center was founded in 2014.\u00a0It\u00a0arranges comic-orientated cultural events, supports, shares comics and creates a platform for comic artists in Oulu region and in the Arctic area. In the Comics Library, Sarjasto, you can experience panel filled moments and marvel on the spot or borrow and take home. The Oulu tenth Comics Festival fills the city with panels once again in 19.-21.11.2021. The festival is the largest annual comics event in the Arctic region, that is widely noticed in local and national media. Oulu is\u00a0<\/span>capital city in the Northern Ostrobothnia with a population of 200,000.<\/span><\/p>\n

The residency is located in Liminka. 30 kilometers South from the City of Oulu. Liminka School of Arts is the oldest community college in Finland, founded in 1892. Adult students study year or more in boarding school environment\u00a0<\/span>in one of the four departments,\u00a0 <\/span>Fine Arts <\/i>(painting, printmaking, sculpting), Comics and Animation<\/i>, Theatre and Performing Arts<\/i> and Free-form Studies. <\/i>Liminka School of Arts is highly appreciated school that has produced many acknowledged professionals of contemporary art and comic. The school has 70-100 full-time students each year.<\/span><\/p>\n

We expect the residencial artist to keep a five day workshop and open lecture at Liminka School of Arts during the residency period. Also at the Oulu Comics Festival we expect the artist to provide a 45 minute lecture.\u00a0<\/span>We also offer a fine exhibition space for your artworks.\u00a0<\/span>Exhibition takes place Oulu Comics Festival and located in Liminka Library<\/span><\/p>\n

We are looking for a Comics artist who is committed to teach and has background with teaching. Recidencial artist is of course supported by standing teachers of the school.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Comics Residency is now held for fourth time. Previous artists are:
\n\u2013 2017 Amr Talaat, Egypt,
\n<\/span>\u2013 2018 Cara Bean, USA and
\n<\/span>\u2013 2019 Nancy “NAAN” Costa, Puerto Rico<\/span><\/p>\n

Duration of the Residency<\/strong>
\nOctober 1 \u2013 November 30 2021 (1.10.-30.11.2021)<\/span><\/p>\n

What we offer<\/strong>
\n\u2013 Travels to Oulu and back (max 600 euros)
\n\u2013 Fee of 800 euros
\n\u2013 Accommodation
\n\u2013 Breakfast , lunch and afternoon coffee in school restaurant during the School days in Liminka Shool of Arts
\n\u2013 Free Studio for different medias, printmaking, sculpting, animation, performing arts\u2026
\n<\/span>\u2013 Access for our utensils and implements
\n\u2013 Local bus card to travel between Oulu and Liminka
\n\u2013 Exhibition space at Liminka libary
\n<\/span>\u2013 exposure in local and national media<\/span><\/p>\n
