Oulu Comics Center

Oulu Comics Center is the multipurpose center of Northern comics community. The basis of the Center is to increase comics knowledge and to bring forth both the comics and the makers. The Center is located at the Cultural Centre Valve in Hallituskatu 7 in Oulu. In Oulu Comics Center you can find:

    Emilia Laatikainen: Ei ois susta uskonu - näyttely | exhibition

    Sairaus kehittyy hiipien, mutta niin nopeasti, ettei sitä voi lopulta keneltäkään kieltää. Sen rakennuspalikoina ovat musertava itsesääli ja kontti kaljaa joka ilta. Olemassaolosta on tullut vitsi, joka ei enää naurata ketään. 

    Emilia yrittää. Hän rakentaa kulissit tarpeen vaatiessa vaikka joka päivä uudelleen, mutta perusta ei koskaan pysy kasassa. Elämä on täynnä piikkejä, harmaita, tylsiä piikkejä. Menneisyys masentaa, nykyhetki ahdistaa ja tulevaisuus katoaa. Voiko käänteisesti luovuttaa?

    Ei ois susta uskonu (Suuri Kurpitsa, 2023) on tositarina nuoren alkoholistin rimpuilusta päihteen kanssa. Ränni-gallerian näyttelyssä on esillä valikoituja sivuja sarjakuva-albumista ja päihdekuntoutuksessa raapustettua tuskaa päiväkirjan sivuilla. Riippuvuudesta toipuminen vaatii luopumista, opettelua, nöyrtymistä ja pään hakkaamista seinään. Rohkeutta antaa elämälle mahdollisuus. 

    Emilia Laatikainen (s.1995) on oululainen sarjakuvantekijä ja kuvataiteen opettaja, joka harjoittelee elämään päivän kerrallaan. 

    Emilia Laatikainen esittelee Ränni-galleriassa esillä olevan Ei ois susta uskonu -näyttelyn Oulun Sarjakuvafestivaalilla, perjantaina 10.11. klo 20.00-

    Emilia Laatikainen (born 1995) is an Oulu-based comic artist and art teacher who practices living one day at a time. 

    Emilia Laatikainen will present the exhibition Ei ois susta uskonu on display at the Ränni Gallery at the Oulu Comics Festival on Friday, November 10th, at 8:00 PM.

New ideas are welcome and use of your own imagination is encouraged. The Center organizes course activity such as after-school courses and custom made courses tailored for your needs. Oulu Comics Center also offers weekly workshops for kids and teens at the comics class in Cultural Centre Valve. The Oulu Comics Center has an excellent comics teacher’s network and the course activity is done in cooperation with national networks which includes The Finnish Comics Society and Turku Comics Society. The Center acts as the central hub for the Oulu Comics Festival and several other events. The Comics Gallery! at the Center is an open for all application based gallery space and it is located near the Valve Gallery and Northern Photographic Center’s gallery. The space has approximately 25000 visitors annually.

A comics archive is being collected at the Center where you can also buy local small press and other finnish comics organization’s publications. The Oulu Comics Center is managed by Oulu Comics Society, based in 1980.
