Avajaiset perjantaina 10.11.2023 klo 18-20.
At the Oulu Comics Festival, the Comic Gallery opens an exhibition by the Oulu-based comic artist couple Hanna and Aapo Kukko, where their latest works, Hanna Kukko: 'Unetkin synkronoituu!' (Zum Teufel, 2023) and Aapo Kukko: 'Puhumalla paras' (Zum Teufel, 2023), sync up to form an exhibition ensemble.
While Hanna reflects on the intensity of emotions, Aapo points out that silence keeps things as they are, but by speaking, we create the future. The exhibition begins with the moment when the bewildered Hanna goes on a date with the cute and eccentric Aapo, who turns out to be the admired artist she has always looked up to. However, the comic originals take the viewer on a journey to when the pacifist Yrjö Kallinen received a death sentence during the Civil War but survived - by speaking.
Both comic books are based on true events, and this exhibition is true as well!
New ideas are welcome and use of your own imagination is encouraged. The Center acts as the central hub for the Oulu Comics Festival and several other events. The Comics Gallery! at the Center is an open for all application based gallery space and it is located near the Valve Gallery and Northern Photographic Center’s gallery. The space has approximately 25000 visitors annually.
A comics archive is being collected at the Center where you can also buy local small press and other finnish comics organization’s publications. The Oulu Comics Center is managed by Oulu Comics Society, based in 1980.
