Oulu Comics Center and The Liminka School of Arts organize an open call for an international comic artist residency. Due to the Corona pandemic, we decided to postpone our international residences from this year until 2021. Instead we will organize a national comic artist residency for two comic artists.
The residency is located in the municipality of Liminka, Northern Finland. The residence program is organized by Oulu Comics Center and The Liminka School of Arts.
Oulu Comics Center is an organization established in 2014, and it operates for the comics hobbyists and professionals around the year. The comics library Sarjasto, which is located at the Oulu main library, adds to the sortiment of comics services in the area. The ninth Oulu Comics Festival will be organized from 20th to 22nd of November 2020. At that time, the city gets packed again with comics and other programs. The Oulu region, which has a population of 250 000, offers good conditions to enjoy both the busy city and the peace of nature.
The residence is located in the municipality of Liminka, approximately 30 kilometers south from the Oulu city. The Liminka School of Arts started in 1966 and it is the oldest adult education college in Finland. The adult students can choose to study in the field of visual arts, comic arts, freeform arts, or theatre.
We expect that the residence artist holds an optional comic arts teaching for 10 hours on the comic arts line of The Liminka School of Arts, and that they hold a lecture at the venue of Liminki municipality. In addition, they will take part in the Oulu Comics Festival as an artist by giving an interview and organizing an exhibition.
